Drawing and editing asset geometry

Creating point, line and polygon features

Choosing the right geometry type and drawing it accurately.

40 min

Choose the type the asset actually is

  • Point — a discrete item: a sign, a pit, a pump, a tree
  • Line — a linear asset: a pipe, a road segment, a kerb, a fence
  • Polygon — a surface: a car park, a playing field, a building footprint

Drawing

  1. Find the asset's record and select Edit geometry.
  2. Choose the geometry tool.
  3. Click to place vertices. For lines and polygons, add a vertex for every meaningful change of direction.
  4. Snap to existing features where the asset genuinely connects to them.
  5. Save. The platform derives the feature's length or area, its representative position, and the projected easting and northing from the geometry.

Quality, not quantity

A line with four well-placed vertices is better than twenty approximate ones. Geometry is evidence: draw what is there.
